I trained as a Reiki Master and Teacher in Perth, Western Australia in 2006. I volunteered as a Reiki Practitioner in Australia's first purpose built 'complementary therapy' cancer centre, based in Western Australia's largest public hospital. I gave reiki treatments to cancer patient's pre and post-surgery, during their chemotherapy and at their bedside on the oncology ward.

Complementary therapy in hospitals and palliative care settings is 'not' a new idea. America paved the way nearly 30 years ago and reiki has become a well-established part of integrated healthcare and is available in over 800 hospitals throughout the country.

Australia has been providing complementary therapy in hospital cancer centres for nearly fifteen years and is recognised as an integral part of the Australian healthcare system.

Prior to this I spent seven years as a volunteer companion and hospital liaison person for Camp Quality (children living with cancer). I provided spiritual care to children living with cancer and their families.

I am convinced that it is now time for all New Zealand hospitals to offer complementary care as part of our holistic healthcare system. Modern medicine has made many amazing advances in cure rates but little progress in the way of spiritual care. I am passionate about serving our community and helping to put spiritual care back into our healthcare system.

Reiki Principles

Just for today, I will not anger.

Just for today, I will not worry.

Just for today, I will be grateful for all my blessings.

Just for today, I will work with honesty and integrity.

Just for today, I will be kind to all living beings.
